FPGA DSP Engineer

Confidential client

Build high-performance FPGA systems operating on real-world RF data. High-throughput, low-latency pipelined architectures and production-grade DSP firmware sitting at the intersection of FPGA engineering, embedded systems and digital signal processing.

About the role

Sydney-based engineering company developing high-throughput, low-latency systems that process complex RF and sensor data in real time. The work is performance-critical, deeply technical, and highly collaborative across hardware, embedded software, RF and signal-processing teams.

The strongest candidates we have placed into roles of this shape enjoy difficult low-level engineering problems and have a measurement-first mindset - speed is a discipline, not a vibe.

Why AEY is running this

Confidential client, multi-mandate AEY engagement.

Process

Three stages - technical conversation, deep-dive panel including a real-world FPGA / DSP problem, and a final discussion with engineering leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement FPGA-based systems for real-time signal processing.
  • Develop high-throughput, low-latency pipelined architectures.
  • Implement DSP algorithms into production-grade firmware.
  • Work across FPGA, ARM, embedded software and RF-adjacent systems.
  • Develop and maintain automated verification and validation workflows.
  • Optimise systems for performance, stability, reliability and maintainability.
  • Support hardware bring-up, debugging and integration activities.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electronic Engineering or similar technical discipline.
  • 3+ years' experience on FPGA or embedded systems projects.
  • Strong FPGA development and debugging capability.
  • Experience designing low-latency, fully pipelined architectures.
  • Understanding of DSP concepts and signal-processing workflows.
  • Verilog, VHDL or SystemVerilog; Vivado, Quartus or Vitis.
  • C/C++ firmware development; Python scripting; Linux.

Bonus

  • RF systems or wireless communications exposure.
  • PCB bring-up and hardware debugging experience.
  • Automated V&V frameworks.
  • Machine-learning concepts applied to FPGA systems.
  • Experience identifying or processing communication protocols.
